Join In The Fun! Join In The December 2019 Tea Party!

“What better way to suggest friendliness – and to create it – than with a cup of tea?” -J. Grayson Luttrell

Aloha, charming WordPressers!

I’m delighted to announce you that The Little Mermaid is hosting her tenth monthly tea party on her website. What? A tea party? On WordPress? When? How? For whom? Alright..alright…take it easy. I’m coming on to your questions.

Classically, a ‘tea party’ makes one think of superiorly elegant and elaborate affairs of the Victorian times. It also conjures up images of fluffy scones, flavoursome muffins, Devonshire Cream and dainty sandwiches served on fine silver or deluxe bone china. Still, the elemental part of a tea party remains the affable exchange of dialogue among the invitees. Almost indistinguishably, the tea party that I am organizing is an online social event hosted in honour of bloggers, that is US! Blogging is most enjoyable when it is done interactively. The tea party, therefore, is an ideal occasion for socialising and making, as well as maintaining the acquaintance of those in the blogosphere. It is a chance to truly relax and to take some time to recharge one’s batteries by engaging in a light-hearted conversation, to be with friends and simply delight in each other’s company. While the first tea party was open-ended, subsequent ones will be topical.

This month’s theme is:

PAINTING/ART

Do you like paintings? Do you visit art museums? What art form do you like best? Why and how do you enjoy art? If you could buy a great work of art, what would it be? What is the value of paintings among millennials in today’s fast-paced digitalised world?

The December 2019 tea party begins today and will close on the 31th. Make sure that you share a blog post round to the subject as a comment and allure bloggers to read you. As for newcomers out there-grab the golden opportunity to let your freak flag fly by sharing your first post with a huge gathering. Aren’t you excited?

Now that you’re in, it is noteworthy to mention that along with tea and cups, tea parties bring to the table certain etiquettes in the bargain that must be followed to make it more respectful and all the more interesting. Not only does this process make the tea party an entertaining one for everyone involved, it also makes coordination a lot easier.

So, let’s check out the guidelines below.

-Etiquette Number 1- Introduce yourself.

Introduce yourself, your blog or even your latest post to the community in such a way that it encourages others to converse with you. Avoid posting just a link as a comment which looks rude and spammy. Be polite.

-Etiquette Number 2- Mix and mingle.

Tea is a communal experience and there it requires that you meet and greet at least some of the other wonderful people in attendance. Participate by actively reading others’ comments and visiting their links/sites.

-Etiquette Number 3- Share & reblog the most recent tea party.

The purpose of the event is to create a platform where everyone benefits from real diversity of thought; and for that we need to find people who genuinely hold different views and invite them into the conversation. So, please spread the word in the blogosphere through reblogs.

It’s a sure thing that the tea party ritual punctuates our day with precious, refreshing pauses. Perhaps that is the true gift of a teatime celebration: it fills our cups with joy, warmth and friendship. May the echo of the teacup’s message be heard not only at special functions, but anytime friends come together, both in the virtual world and in reality.

With love,
The Little Mermaid

  1. Happy December everyone! I was inspired to create my blog, L’Abeille Française, by my love of Paris. It’s art is one of the things that fascinates me and one of my favourite museums is the Orangerie – home to Monet’s Waterlilies. Visiting this incredible space is a spiritual activity for me. Wanting to see the place that inspired these gorgeous works of art, I took a wonderful cycling tour to the artist’s final home, Giverny, on one of my Paris trips. And of course, I had to blog about it. I hope this brigns a touch of summer to you on this winter’s day:

  2. Good morning, Ladies! It’s Jo, again. As a regular blogger on WordPress.com, I’m delighted to return to Little Mermaid’s monthly tea parties. December is a perfect month for elegant little teas, not celebrating Christmas before it arrives, of course, but beginning with a simple cup of Earl Grey on this first Sunday of Advent. And it happens that this year, it falls on the very first day of December. Consequently, this week’s blog theme focuses on the Advent Wreath — its history, its significance, and how to create one for our homes — and a couple of prayers at candle lighting. You can find it at https://www.invitationtothegarden.WordPress.com.

My other blog site is “Roses in the Rain: A Daughter’s Story” at https://www.rosesintherainmemoir.WordPress.com. My goal in sharing this story of my mother is that it will encourage and offer hope to other women who experienced traumatic relationships with their mothers — and are still grappling with the psychological pain decades later.

But enough of that. As I share my cuppa tea with y’all, I am listening to Sunday Morning Baroque on NPR. It sets the tone for my Sundays at home. You see, Hubby and I have begun attending the Saturday evening Vigil Mass at our local Cathedral parish as early mornings are difficult for him now. Otherwise, Sundays we keep holy at home.

Today I’m making our Advent Wreath for the dining table and setting up a single candle in each window, to be turned on at — well — tea time when it begins to get dark outside. That old Southern tradition of ours used to set the theme and tone for the neighborhood, but no more. Too many comings and goings, and the newest neighbors set up “gaudy-ville” in their front yards. Tour buses creep along at night, full of gawkers. Does that happen in your neighborhood?

    1. Oh, I forgot the Tea Party theme is ART. Music, of course, is part of the fine arts, and I’m listening to a flute and strings piece on NPR. Visual art, on the other hand, can entail many levels for the home, from table décor to paintings (or prints) on the walls. My favorite: Monet, along with Renoir and Vemeer — from French to Italian.

But, “What is the value of paintings among millennials in today’s fast-paced digitalised world?” For me, viewing art slows down my mind and leads to contemplation. Art work graces my home, my world, even my community as this area has been developing into a vibrant art community of artists and galleries. Poetry readings, another art form, are held in an art gallery at the local college. Sometimes local poets present ephrastic poems based on a particular painting. At these public readings, coffee, not tea, is served, along with simple nibbles. Yes, I’m a poet, too!

  3. I’m Dracul Van Helsing.

I write an on-line vampire novel:

    I love paintings.

I’ve visited numerous art museums including the Tate Gallery in London.

My father owned a vast collection of great paintings.

    He also painted himself.

My favourite art form are the 19th Century French Impressionists.

If I could buy a great work of art, it would probably be a painting of the Madonna and Christ Child painted by one of the world’s great masters.

  4. Hi. I’m Greg. I’m a character in a continuing story about my coming-of-age years, currently set in 1995. (Most of what I write about in my blog is based on true stories, so you may address me as if I were a real person.)

I’ve never been particularly knowledgeable about art, and going to see museums was never something that was really part of my life. I don’t dislike art, though. I like going to museums, even though it isn’t something I do frequently.

I have exactly one post about art in my blog, conveniently enough, about a painting that I still have in my house today. https://dontletthedaysgoby.home.blog/2019/10/29/early-april-1995-tear-down-the-wall/

  5. hello and thanks for hosting this. i write a personal finance blog in the united states at freddysmidlap.com. you could say i handle the investing part of the household while mrs. smidlap, aka the painter mary begley, handles making all the abstract expressionist painting. even though she had a day job that didn’t involve painting for most of her life we have a house full or her beautiful artwork. even my logo is a silhouette type image of our old boxer dog she did for fun a few years ago. it’s great to have a house full of art. we just visited a salvador dali museum last month and enjoyed that very much.

here’s an art related post from the blog: https://freddysmidlap.com/2019/08/27/lessons-from-selling-art-at-a-festival/

  6. Hi, Little Mermaid, and thank you for so generously setting the table for us to mix and mingle. I’m Annie, blogging at http://annieasksyou.com. My blog’s subtitle is “Seeking Dialogue to Inform, Enlighten, and/or Amuse You and Me.” My interests are diverse, and I write about anything that captures my curiosity.

I love all kinds of art except the most post-modern (eg, strings on the floor you must be careful not to step on), and I frequently visit art museums.

Coincidentally, this week’s post is about an extraordinary Indian sculptor whose work dazzled me when I saw it this summer. I invite anyone who’s interested in seeing some photos and learning a bit about her to visit me vis this link:

Hi to Dracul, one of my favorite bloggers, whom I met at a tea party here some time ago.

I look forward to visiting some of the bloggers here who are new to me, and I wish everyone a very happy and healthy holiday season.

    Cheers,
    Annie

  7. Hello the gorgeous Mermaid and everyone, it is my first time in this Tea Party… Nice to meet you 🙂 I am Dragon Warrior and my little blog, Den of Dreams, is full of musings, writings, paintings and everything between Earth and my imaginary planet, Cygnet. 🙂

  8. Hi all, discovered the tea party through Sheree’s blog. I’m Astrid and I blog over at https://astridetal.wordpress.com/. The “etal”. Suffix refers to the fact that I’m multiple (dissociative identity disorder). I’m mostly a mental health and personal life blogger.

As for art, I am blind so can’t see paintings, but I do enjoy sculptures and ceramics. I remember going to the capitoline museum in Rome, Italy in 2004 and being allowed as an exceptional case to touch the sculptures, that were thousands of years old in some cases. When my sister visited the museum in 2006, they had created replicas for blind people to touch.
