Hey friends! I’m Urvashi. It gives me the supreme, inexpressible pleasure to extend a cheerful welcome to you at The Little Mermaid’s hearth and home.
My passion for writing, which traces its roots back to the early days when I started learning ABCs has propelled me to set up this blog in January 2016. As a child, I was always writing. I was writing in my free time. I was writing when I was upset. I was writing when I was in high spirits. I realised very quickly that, as an introvert, writing was the perfect means for me to express myself. But blogging is substantially different from writing in your personal diary. When you have a blog, you actually have a voice. And when you have a voice, you can make a difference in people’s lives, you can make the world a better place.
I have the deepest affection for long, meaningful conversations. I absolutely enjoy the company of non-judgemental, open-minded people. I believe no one is imperfectly perfect; but everyone is perfectly imperfect. That’s the beauty of being human, of being real. I value truth, love, hard-work, honesty, loyalty, dignity and knowledge above all. For me, life is a divine miracleโto be born to taste its sweetness and bitterness alike is, in itself, a Beatitude.
Over the past few years that I have been with you, I have discovered the magic of blogging. There are incommensurable joys, and joys inconceivable in sharing the snippets of your life with friends from around the world. It is a humbling experience that makes one feel special, vulnerable and blessed at the same time. You help me along the way to becoming the best possible version of myself and I’m thankful to you for everything. Here I will write about things that pique my interest. And I do not promise to subscribe to a single theme. But then, isnโt life more colourful when it is full of surprises and serendipity?
With the aim of forgingย an acquaintance and cultivating an everlasting friendship with you, I will publish a blog post twice a week-on Tuesdays and Saturdays where I invite you to participate through comments, likes and shares.
I will also host a monthly tea party throughout each month of the year with a singular topic of discussion. Yes, you have guessed most infallibly-I am a tea person. Haha! This activity will essentially be a stimulus to critical thinking and inventiveness by allowing us to pool our resources together, to share ideas, to learn from one another in a spirit of camaraderie.
I look forward to this beautiful odyssey with you. Through the brightness of the sunshine, through the darkness of a moonless night, you can always count on me.

I started my blogging journey on a free website on WordPress but after learning the ropes of it for about a year, I eventually found it to be a better idea if I created my own website. Having your own website allows you to be in the driver’s seat in regard to the ownership of your content, intellectual property rights and so much more. So, at present, I do spend money to maintain my website, whilst still not monetizing it. Blogging is my hobby. It is my leisure pursuit; and I spend money on it just like people spend money on recreational activities.
When I originally commented I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are
added- checkbox and from now on whenever a comment is added I receive
4 emails with the exact same comment. There has to be an easy method you
can remove me from that service? Thank you!

I appreciate hearing there’s someone else out there who has a similar perspective about not sticking to a single theme. All of the articles I’ve seen have drilled how important it is to have a niche. I’m more comfortable letting myself share my thoughts about whatever I feel like on my blog, which is more important to me than technically doing it “right.”

I have been writing since I was six. Granted, it wasn’t very intelligent writing but it was observant writing during my first trip outside my native United States, to a town in Mexico. I watched people and wrote down what I saw. Since then, writing has served to give me a “voice” as you put it to capture bits and pieces of the world around me and get them down on paper. My bias is always there, which is unavoidable as a human, but my hope is that in understanding and in seeking to “see” others as closely as they truly are, that I can catch a glimpse of God.

From the age of juvenescence, observational writing been one of my main leisure pursuits, too. This has allowed me to pause in order to prolong the whole inner experience of being, to apprehend the whys and wherefores of a set of circumstances from a non-partisan angle, and more importantly, to strike an empathetic chord with people around me.
I believe we truly underestimate the importance of emotional support and how much it matters. Being there for someone will probably be the truest and most beautiful thing youโll ever do to someone when they are at their lowest and ugliest version of themselves.
Being aware of how much someone can be a prisoner to their own thoughts yet letting them get comfortable opening up to you, reveal their most complex, messiest emotions and feel safe enough to bare their soul to you is honestly one of the few things in life you should never ever take for granted.
Remember that it takes a lot of strength to be vulnerable. It takes a lot of effort to unzip the hidden parts of you. It takes a lot of trust to know that someone might be ignorant to your struggles yet you still leave your emotional baggage right in front of their doorstep.
Kindness is a great form of intelligence if you ask me. Your constant trials to communicate, listen, trust, give and support are all what it takes you and them to evolve. Itโs necessary to understand that listening doesnโt have to be followed by advice, or a positive statement, or โHey, youโre just being too dramaticโ, not even by making it about you or by basing it on your own life experience. You only have to absorb what the other person is trying to say in their own language and validate their feelings. You have no clue how much you could be just that one reason why someone is healing.
Considering all these, observant writing remains a majorly cathartic activity that enables us to process things methodically whenever there is a lot on our mind. As Jean Edmond Cyrus Rostand condignly remarked, ”To be able to observe with a stranger’s eye helps one to see with an artist’s eye. What alienates us inspires.”
I’m a career fundraiser and, through that, believe I’ve developed a certain aptitude for the art of listening. Because it is truly an “art.” Even saw a book by that title. But your point — “Kindness is a great form of intelligence” — I will ponder. That’s a pregnant statement.

I write just because. When I write, I am completely, and perfectly, and incandescently happy. I was away from all of you for an inordinate length of time. I did not realise how time just flew by in the blink of an eye while I was processing some significant life changes. Then one day out of the blue, someone close to my heart asked me, “Where is The Little Mermaid? Is she dead? Does she even exist?” That hit me hard. Before you could say knife, I caught the drift that for me, there is no greater joy than to write. So, here I am to stay with all of you to share our ideas, to grow, to inspire, to love.

Hello Robert, your benevolent sentiment has been the highlight of my day today. My heart is quenchlessly thirsting for three things in perpetuity: peace, love and success. This search will, by reasonable assumption, still linger even after I immigrate to Canada. Haha!
I am always trying to find that state of calm and contentment within myself as an individual. I seek to feel that mystical sense of emotional, mental, and spiritual harmony with Nature. Oh! I think I am doing just fine because I have been told, umpteen times, that I am a self-composed person.
I would interpret love as acceptance and care. I only desire to give and to receive love in abundance anywhere I am.
My idea of success is a bit disparate. The broad concept of success to which we are accustomed to refers to an ascension, which is comprehensible because reaching โheightsโ never attained before is indeed an achievement, as per the colloquial meaning. For instance, getting โhigher incomeโ or โhigherโ rankings are considered as succeeding. However, I perceive that if we were to consider success not as flying higher but as digging deeper, into ourselves, or into the understanding of things, perhaps, it would alleviate-if not eliminate-the comparative element and allow us to further focus on our progress rather than comparing it. This is the success that I am working towards-the one with depth and meaning.
