I’m delighted to announce you that The Little Mermaid is hosting her third monthly tea party on her website. What? A tea party? On WordPress? When? How? For whom? Alright..alright…take it easy. I’m coming on to your questions.
Classically, a ‘tea party’ makes one think of superiorly elegant and elaborate affairs of the Victorian times. It also conjures up images of fluffy scones, flavoursome muffins, Devonshire Cream and dainty sandwiches served on fine silver or deluxe bone china. Still, the elemental part of a tea party remains the affable exchange of dialogue among the invitees. Almost indistinguishably, the tea party that I am organizing is an online social event hosted in honour of bloggers, that is US! Blogging is most enjoyable when it is done interactively. The tea party, therefore, is an ideal occasion for socialising and making, as well as maintaining the acquaintance of those in the blogosphere. It is a chance to truly relax and to take some time to recharge one’s batteries by engaging in a light-hearted conversation, to be with friends and simply delight in each other’s company.
While the first tea party was open-ended, subsequent ones will be topical.
This month’s theme is:
FOOD
Feel free to talk about anything related to food. What’s your favorite food? Do you like cuisine from other countries? If yes, which do you like the most? How important is a healthy diet to you? What national dishes from your country would you recommend to the world?
The August 2018 tea party begins today and will close on the 31st. Make sure that you share a blog post round to the subject as a comment and allure bloggers to read you. As for newcomers out there-grab the golden opportunity to let your freak flag fly by sharing your first post with a huge gathering. Aren’t you excited?
Now that you’re in, it is noteworthy to mention that along with tea and cups, tea parties bring to the table certain etiquettes in the bargain that must be followed to make it more respectful and all the more interesting. Not only does this process make the tea party an entertaining one for everyone involved, it also makes coordination a lot easier.
So, let’s check out the guidelines below.
-Etiquette Number 1- Introduce yourself.
Introduce yourself, your blog or even your latest post to the community in such a way that it encourages others to converse with you. Avoid posting just a link as a comment which looks rude and spammy. Be polite.
-Etiquette Number 2- Mix and mingle.
Tea is a communal experience and there it requires that you meet and greet at least some of the other wonderful people in attendance. Participate by actively reading others’ comments and visiting their links/sites.
-Etiquette Number 3- Share & reblog the most recent tea party.
The purpose of the event is to create a platform where everyone benefits from real diversity of thought; and for that we need to find people who genuinely hold different views and invite them into the conversation. So, please spread the word in the blogosphere through reblogs.
It’s a sure thing that the tea party ritual punctuates our day with precious, refreshing pauses. Perhaps that is the true gift of a teatime celebration: it fills our cups with joy, warmth and friendship. May the echo of the teacup’s message be heard not only at special functions, but anytime friends come together, both in the virtual world and in reality.

    1. Better late than never Rich. My name is Darnell and I’m enjoying these parties. I suggest mingle around and get ideas. That’s what I’m doing so I can host a great tea party like this one. Keeping with the theme of the party, Spaghetti and meatballs is my favorite food.

    1. Can’t wait to read about your favorite food or foods. Mine is pumpkin and I have written a book about everything pumpkins which hopefully will come out this month via Amazon KDP! I not only have recipes, but amazing other things too – folklore, history, and did you know that a pumpkin is NOT a vegetable, and not technically exactly a fruit either, though closer. . .

        1. Oh, you will be amazed at the life and lore of pumpkins. And they are so heathy to eat in so many different ways too. Breakfast foods and sweet cakes are some of my faves too. Pumpkin makes everything more moist and you can buy it in cans so can make pumpkin cakes and breakfast breads, waffles and pancakes too, just to name a few. Well, you will soon be able to have treats with pumpkin in them as it is that time of year. Have fun, and a great autumn to you too. Anne

It’s much shorter to list pizza I don’t enjoy…anything with anchovies and that thin crust that is more like a cracker–hate that. Nice to meet you. I’m heading over to check out your blog now.

        2. Hi from Anne, I LOVE pineapple on my pizzas too, and I love bacon, so it sounds yummy to me. My food is pumpkins, and I have written a whole book with even recipes in it (and lots of other things too). I have had to reformat it for paperback, and so I am hoping it goes well and I can get it finished quickly. It will be available in a short time in Amazon KDP. They used to publish just Ebooks, but now they publish paperbacks and hardbacks too – print-on-demand and no up-front charge! I posted below about mine somewhere. Good to meet you.

        3. I love pizza too, and I am like you in that I think bacon (which I am crazy for) and pineapple would be great. I love salty and sweet too, and I too don’t like anchovies or a thin crust.       2. Hi Giana, I love pizza 🍕 pepperoni is my favourite on a thin crust to share with friends, and garlic buttered pizza to share as a starter. I prefer savoury to sweet but I’d try a slice of your bacon and pineapple 🍍

      1. Hi Darnell, nice to meet you, too. You know, I’ve never tried a Cuban sandwich! I only recently started eating beef and pork, so I have a lot of catching up to do in the food world. It sounds delicious! I’m heading to your blog now to check it out.

    3. Oh me too!!! I like good submarine sandwiches, and I really love hot sandwiches with gravy, like the beef a jus sandwich. Oh, and my very fave is tomato, lettuce and bacon (BLT). Love it on good toast. I think the bread on a sandwich is really important. The wrong bread can seem to change the sandwich to where it is OK, but not what you like best. And it is important to decide whether to toast it or not too. Some sandwiches need something to go with them. Like a grilled cheese, a good one, needs some good hot tomato soup, the nice thick kind with pieces of tomato in it. Ummm . . . As for me, I am the pumpkin lady, and you can read my post somewhere below. I have a book in its 3rd edition, and it is everything you can imagine about pumpkins and even photos of them and quilts with pumpkins on them too. Doesn’t get much better than that if you are a fan!

    1. Oh I so love soda bread and preserves. I just made my first fig preserves from figs growing in my senior mobile home park, and they are pretty delicious. I made them without the pectin as preserves are a high acid food and don’t need that form of preserving unless you intend to keep them for years. My post is about pumpkins and my 3rd edition book, which hopefully will be out soon after reformatting into paperback on Amazon KDP. I love pumpkins, so there is a lot more than just cooking and recipes. You will find it below I believe.

    I write an on-line vampire novel on my blog as is fitting for someone with my name.
    I generally write and post a chapter each day.
    Although occasionally I’ll write and post a haiku, poem, short story or movie review.
    My vampire novel might be considered a mixture of dark humour, international intrigue, satire and geopolitics mixed in with the occult and supernatural forces.
    On the subject of food, one of the things I miss most about living in the City of Vancouver where I lived for four years is the number of Asian restaurants as is fitting for a Pacific rim coastal city.
    When I lived there, I don’t think I ever ate what might be considered typical Canadian food.
    I always ate Asian – whether it was Indian, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai or Japanese.
    I think my favourite was a tie between Indian, Korean and Vietnamese.
    I actually think I prefer Asian to Canadian food having lived there.

Mental Health is interesting, and North Georgia or Appalachia would be interesting. My favorite food is pumpkins, and it is far more than a food for me.       1. I list fruit as my favorite food. Bananas is the fruit I eat the most. Banana pudding. Melons: honey dew, cantaloupes, watermelons. Apples. Peaches in a can. Key lime pie. Lemon pie. Any kind of cobbler, starting with peach and apple.
        Beans are good. Any kind. Just beans.
        Pecan pie and pumpkin pie. I don’t like much spice in pumpkin pie. Growing up pumpkin pies had no spice. Just lots and lots of sugar and butter.
        My family was English. Most food I like is English. Roast beef and pot roast with carrots, potatoes and onions and plenty of juice. With biscuits.
        I don’t know where to draw the line or pick a favorite.

        1. I love it. All my favorites too, though I, being the pumpkin lady, do like all kinds of pumpkin pie. My family had English in our background too, so it was fish and chips, kidney stew, blueberry dumplings, plum pudding with hard sauce, and lots of things that some people here in the U.S. have not heard of.   4. Hello again everybody. This is my third “Tea Party” and I must admit they are quite enjoyable. I must say that I’ve met so many new and interesting bloggers sharing a wealth of information and insight on a host of topics.
    My blog is entitled “justabitfurther” and chronicles the outdoor adventures that my wife and I have completed over the past number of years. One real and special component of our blog is the section “Thoughts From the Wilderness” which is my view of life, living and it’s inherent struggles and coping issues as seen through a lens of the outdoor
    One of my favourite foods is fresh seafood. It has to fresh that day. When we visit Prince Edward Island in Canada, nothing like eating fresh mussels, clams, ocean-fresh fish caught that morning.

      1. Me too! Seafood is a favorite, and did you know that in the past at least, they used to sell fake scallops carved out of some kind of fish because scallops were not so plentiful and they sell for good money too! I am not sure it is still done, but interesting to think of them making fake food. Of course crab packages are often made from a type of fish, so I guess it is common, but they do let you know that is the case. Scallops were truly a favorite of mine when they were scallops though!     2. Love your blog and meeting you and your wife. My significant other, Richard and I are looking to do something (perhaps a bit modified as we are seniors) in our lives when we can sell our old tiny mobile home and perhaps get a motor home. We have some small dogs and two cats, so it is more difficult to just get up and go without arrangements for them too and I would never leave any of them behind. I will enjoy very much reading your blog. There is an adventurous soul that lives within me and it is so yearning to get out again even though I might be in the winter of my life. In my mind, you are never too old to start living out in the wilds. Being a senior is kind of an odd experience. Your body may look and feel differently, but your soul is ageless. It has no idea of this thing called age. Oh yes, we love fresh seafood too. Life should be an adventure forever!

      1. We live certianly by the adage of “age is just a couple of numbers.” Life is supposed to be lived to its fullest extent. That’s what I believe. I often hear people say, “well we’re going to do this when…..” or “once we retire…..” or “next year we’ll do this…” Funny thing is that they never follow through. It is always something else that pops up that keeps them back. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. My fear is I’ll wake up one day and realize I won’t be able to do and experience the things I wanted too. I love that you have an adventurous soul. Need to let that adventurous loose. When we bought our current house, the lady we bought from was a widowed nurse, but she had a free spirit for sure. She was 70 years old if she was a day. She had a daughter that lived in western Canada and she was selling to move closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Makes perfect sense – right? Here comes the adventurous part. The lady we bought from, also had a sister. They decided between them to buy a rambling rundown shack on Vancouver Island and renovate themselves. Age is only a number.

  5. Since I got this post 9/1/2018 I’m going with it. I’m a trained chef, but am not cooking professionally now. I like using Asian and south-east Asian ingredients with western European techniques. Like a fettucini with shrimp and red peppers and a green curry sauce. I am very interested now in the ketogenic diet lots of protein and fat and low carbs- I am finding that I am sensitive to gluten so American Pizza is troublesome. I am also interested in learning more about Indian cuisine…Food from the US I would have to say we have some delicious apples
    the Honeycrisp is amazing and was developed here in Minnesota and an even rarer find is the Fireside apple

    1. Oh the food sounds so amazing. You have me wondering now about the Fireside apple. Each years, one of my joys here in So CA. in the Inland Empire is to find the new varieties of apples and try them all. The Honeycrisp is a very good one. One of my least favorites is the Delicious Apple, but we have sure come a long way since that variety was out when I was a child (and I am going to be 77 in November). I have to say that my objection was mostly the peel on the apples, and it was hard to chew for me at least. I love shrimp and I love fettucini too, so this recipe sounds delicious. I think we all could benefit from eating a healthy diet, especially with all of the environmental things we are exposed to every day.
      My favorite is pumpkins, and I wrote a book years ago (it will soon be out in the 3rd edition) and there is a lot more than recipes in it. It is being formatted now and that is a slow job for me but hopefully it will be ready before the season is done on Amazon KDP in paperback.         1. As far as I know, there is basically one type that is poisonous. Most of the others are more like fungus, and they grow on trees, etc. so are pretty easy to recognize. They all taste somewhat different.

    I am a retired special education teacher, and I have a blog about Authentic teaching, and ironically one of the first Authentic things I did years ago was hold tea parties with the kids I taught. This was a great Authentic way to teach manners.

  7. Sorry I’m late to the party, great idea 💡 👍🏻. My favourite food is chicken roast dinner with Yorkshire pudding, gravy, 3 vegetables, mashed and a couple of roast potatoes, absolutely delightful. However, a close second is a mixed grill for brunch (mid-way between breakfast and lunch), 2 thin sausage grilled, back bacon 🥓, eggs (poached or scrambled), mushrooms grilled with the sausage, and a grilled tomato, sometimes beans, fried bread or toast if I’m trying to stay healthy just yummy nom nom. Feeling hungry now!

  8. I stepped in briefly but failed to observe the proper etiquette, a failure for which I most sincerely apologize. (And I mean that…really!) I am Steve, the keeper in general of The Sardonic Chicken. (www.sardonicchicken.com) Our motto is “Free Range, Free Thought.” And I say “keeper in general” as others on our little farm post to the site. The “others” include a couple of chickens, a horse, a bird dog, and a cat. The bird dog cusses a bit, so I guess I have to apologize for that also. She has promised to work on it.
    Our most recent post attempts to reconcile Karl Mark’s view of religion with American Football. The post was inspired (bold use of the word there) by one of the hens impersonating the Heisman Trophy.
    As for food, I am all about toasted pound cake. Pound cake is my speciality, largely owing to the fact one can’t really mess up making a pound cake. Its sort of like scrambled eggs. But toast it a little and serve with some hot tea…good stuff. As far as the tea goes I am all about Irish Breakfast in the morning, and a Japanese Sencha in the afternoon. I like to drizzle honey in the bottom of the cup.

      1. Just barely cover the bottom of the cup. Then the hot water…then the sachet…or the tea..however you do it. If you can find sourwood honey…yum.

It is crazy hot for September — in the mid 90s F — but the watermelon is still good. One is cut up and chilling right now for tonight’s dinner. Blessings all around!

    I love coffee and tea too but o lay hot,even in the heat I can’t drink iced tea.

  16. This is a truly excellent idea. A community of people reaching out and supporting each other. I’ve been impressed with the variety of views…… and we all have different tastes from vegans to carnivores. My next door neighbor is 92 and I mentioned to him that my wife and I usually had salad and a meat dish for supper. His response was yuck , salad, I’m a meat and potatoes man and I still dip my bread in the bacon grease.

    I am going to make up for it though I promise, and over the weekend I will read every single comment from other bloggers and look at the posts you have directed our attention to.
    As for me….I have been a busy bee indeed. I have been writing what I am calling the “CUP OF TEA SERIES” or “STORM IN A TEA-CUP”.
    These are a very important series of posts because they are directly related to the them of my site “CRUSHED CARAMEL”…in other words, the situation with Jack and all the rumours and gossip quite literally crushed me.   23. Yay! I think this is my 2nd tea party!
    I’m Drifty and I blog about the things I’m learning as I go about life. Currently trying to sort out a direction, live out my faith, and manage my anxiety.
    As far as food goes, I think my favourite food is macaroni and cheese. What can I say? I’m easy to please when it comes to food. I’m not as adventurous as I think I should be when it comes to other country’s cuisines. I guess my thing is I don’t want to not like it. Ordering food and then disliking it is such a disappointment 😤

  24. I am new here, and pleased to “meet” so many new people at this tea party. My name is Diane and I have been blogging for several years. I came to a standstill for a couple of years while working on a novel, but now I am back at it again. My blog isn’t about food, but I have one post about a supplement I used to take that was made from fruit. It is funny, and I hope you will get a chuckle out of it. I can’t really decide what my favorite food is as I like a lot of things. I do like herbal tea, especially if it has ginger in it. I try to eat healthy meals, buy organic when I can, and steam most of my food. I do fry onions and mushrooms which I really enjoy together. As to meat, when I do eat it, I usually choose chicken or salmon fillet. I steam the salmon with coconut aminos and that makes it quite tasty. Chicken I either roast in the oven or buy a whole BBQ chicken from the grocery store. And I really like fruit. I do enjoy trying foods from other cultures and love Indian food, Nepali food, Chinese food to name a few. Here is my blog post.     1. I subscribed to your http://diaryofamadtiredwoman.wordpress.com/ and I am in Southern California in the Inland Empire, an area at the foot of some mountains in the area. Well, it is 9:14 PM now in my area, and just watched this week’s portion of the Mae Young Women’s Wrestling Championship. They have eight women wrestle each other each week out of 32 total women. Then the winners of those will wrestle other champions in the group until it is narrowed down to just one champion. This is the second time we have had this competition and the women are from all over the world, and all of them well known for their talents, so it is pretty exciting. My significant other, Richard introduced me to wrestling and I have become a big fan now! Very empowering and very good image for the women all over the world. We all need heroes.

        1. I love art and Quotes, and I am a very spiritual person too. Dancing, and eating would be really fun. And I would so love for you to write on your blogs and send photos of Trinidad and Tobago. Many folks take for granted that we know about those places, but we don’t always. Well, can you perhaps find a way to say mix good food stories with any of those other things? Wouldn’t that be fun? Of course, we all know of the regular things like the blood being the wine and the bread being the body, but could you think of perhaps an interesting quote in the Bible or someplace that relates to some other foods? I know about the fish too, so we have to put on thinking caps to think of a unique one. See what you can come up with. Glad to meet you.

          1. Oh that’s so good to know that you do. Yes, I do have a category on the blog related to my country where I teach people how to talk like us and where I produce art based on the gems God has blessed the islands with. I post photos of food from time to time. I also have a scripture in time series as well, whenever you decide to stop by you’ll see what its all about 🙂 but food from the Bible sounds good! I never thought of that, I’m gonna take that into consideration for sure! Blessings!

  25. The food that is near and dear to my heart is pumpkins. I am the author of a book called Pumpkin, Pumpkin: Folklore, History, Planting Hints and Good Eating, though the book, now in its 3rd edition, has much more than that. I developed a love of pumpkins many years ago. I was with a friend, driving through Virginia in the autumn rain, and we were going through some hills when I suddenly said, “Pumpkins! We’re coming to pumpkins!” I had never been there before. How could I know this? But as we came over the top of a hill, sure enough, there was a field on the left side of the road, and a nice pumpkin stand on the right side. And so nothing would do but for us to stop in the mud and I had to get out of the car and trek around in the mud until I found the “just right” pumpkin. When we left on the plane to return to California, the pilot and all the people on the plane began to smile happily as I proudly carried my huge pumpkin onboard.
    This book was three years in the making, and lots of testing of recipes with good friends and creating new ones too. At one time I had some 35 pumpkins in all shapes, sizes and colors under my home on the peninsula where my office was. I was drying them, no easy task, in ways that early settlers might have done.
    I had hoped to have my book out this month, but issues with Amazon KDP and the format I had being incompatible means I have been spending this month redoing it, and now they supposedly have a new template that should work for me, so it will still come out this year and hopefully not too late. The first edition came out in 1989 in Ebook, but now it will be available also in paperback. The book is full of color photos of pumpkins and quilts with pumpkins on them as well by all my friends. So I am excited to bring it to life once again.
    I hope that I get time to meet all of you and see what you have to say about food. I already saw one cool idea with telescoping text for someone making a cup of tea. Very cool and this is a fun topic for this time of year. Cheers, Anne

  26. I enjoy hot coffee in the morning and sometimes afternoon and evening. This week while traveling in the mountains I had some traditional black tea -hot- with some homemade gluten-free peanut butter cookies. 😀

          1. Sounds delicious! I love spaghetti and lots of other one-pot meals. Soups all winter or stews, chili, or spaghetti. Simple but inexpensive and tasty too, and generally makes more than just one meal, so that is a good thing.

            1. I agree. I like simplicity, although I have to work around the menus since I try to stay away from any wheat and yeast derivative, and chocolate too. Oh my! Like donuts and bread, many places have gluten-free products but still have yeast. I’m delighted when I see “gluten-free” and there is no yeast as well. Hence, I’m still looking for a good “gluten-free and yeast-free” donut recipe. Maybe I’ll start my own little bakery and make the donuts with healthy smoothies. 🙂

      1. Thanks Anne. I live in Florida and took a trip into Colorado. A bit of adjustment changing altitudes too. I have a number of posts coming that will highlight Garden of the Gods, an eatery in Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak, and a little ski town of Crested Butte. 🙂

        1. Oh, my daughter used to live up in one of the ski towns up high in Colorado, and now she and her husband are down on the outskirts of Denver now. She is a writer and artist like me. I’ll look forward to seeing those posts. One of the days I will remember the name of the town where she used to live. She was editor of the newspaper there.
