I’m delighted to announce you that The Little Mermaid is hosting her sixth monthly tea party on her website. What? A tea party? On WordPress? When? How? For whom? Alright..alright…take it easy. I’m coming on to your questions.

Classically, a ‘tea party’ makes one think of superiorly elegant and elaborate affairs of the Victorian times. It also conjures up images of fluffy scones, flavoursome muffins, Devonshire Cream and dainty sandwiches served on fine silver or deluxe bone china. Still, the elemental part of a tea party remains the affable exchange of dialogue among the invitees. Almost indistinguishably, the tea party that I am organizing is an online social event hosted in honour of bloggers, that is US! Blogging is most enjoyable when it is done interactively. The tea party, therefore, is an ideal occasion for socialising and making, as well as maintaining the acquaintance of those in the blogosphere. It is a chance to truly relax and to take some time to recharge one’s batteries by engaging in a light-hearted conversation, to be with friends and simply delight in each other’s company. While the first tea party was open-ended, subsequent ones will be topical.

This month’s theme is:

CONFESSIONS

Make a weird, a hilarious or an embarrassing confession about yourself.

The February 2019 tea party begins today and will close on the 28th. Make sure that you share a blog post round to the subject as a comment and allure bloggers to read you. As for newcomers out there-grab the golden opportunity to let your freak flag fly by sharing your first post with a huge gathering. Aren’t you excited?

Now that you’re in, it is noteworthy to mention that along with tea and cups, tea parties bring to the table certain etiquettes in the bargain that must be followed to make it more respectful and all the more interesting. Not only does this process make the tea party an entertaining one for everyone involved, it also makes coordination a lot easier.

So, let’s check out the guidelines below.

-Etiquette Number 1- Introduce yourself.

Introduce yourself, your blog or even your latest post to the community in such a way that it encourages others to converse with you. Avoid posting just a link as a comment which looks rude and spammy. Be polite.

-Etiquette Number 2- Mix and mingle.

Tea is a communal experience and there it requires that you meet and greet at least some of the other wonderful people in attendance. Participate by actively reading others’ comments and visiting their links/sites.

-Etiquette Number 3- Share & reblog the most recent tea party.

The purpose of the event is to create a platform where everyone benefits from real diversity of thought; and for that we need to find people who genuinely hold different views and invite them into the conversation. So, please spread the word in the blogosphere through reblogs.

It’s a sure thing that the tea party ritual punctuates our day with precious, refreshing pauses. Perhaps that is the true gift of a teatime celebration: it fills our cups with joy, warmth and friendship. May the echo of the teacup’s message be heard not only at special functions, but anytime friends come together, both in the virtual world and in reality.

    A hilarious confession about myself- ever since I saw the 1950 Jimmy Stewart movie Harvey as a kid where the Jimmy Stewart character befriends a 6 foot tall Welsh pooka bunny rabbit who’s invisible to everyone but himself, I will on occasion pretend to engage in a conversation in public with the movie’s title character Harvey (the 6 foot tall Welsh pooka bunny rabbit).

    I must say that if I don’t feel like having people sitting next to me at tables in the coffee shop I’m sitting in, this is one surefire way of ensuring those tables remain vacant as people invariably get up to leave when Harvey and I get into an animated conversation about whether or not Plato’s Republic is practically applicable.

      I must confess that I really hate vampire anythings, but I do love your discussions with Harvey vis-a-vis Plato’s Republic. In fact, I may borrow it when the occasion demands. I write an eclectic blog featuring anything that piques my curiosity. After years of writing and editing stuff on assignment, I revel in the freedom to write what I please.       1. My vampire novel is more than just vampires.

        I incorporate current events, geopolitics and international affairs, the news and worldwide happenings in it as well.

        I also bring in mythological beings from Greek, Norse, Egyptian and Celtic mythology as well.

        So it includes a wide plethora of various things.

        I’ll definitely check out your blog post as well. ☺

        I love your title by the way about how you train a butterfly the same way you train an orthopedic surgeon.

        It reminds me of a vampire novel chapter I once wrote where the mad scientist character in my novel Dr. Cadbury Rocher genetically recreates the winged horse Pegasus from Greek mythology.

        The only problem is Pegasus doesn’t know how to fly.

        So Dr. Rocher gets a hummingbird to teach him how to fly.

        And the end result is Pegasus the winged horse for the modern world flies like a hummingbird.

I look like the Wicked Witch of the West my long hair flying everywhere it wants and doing whatever it wants at the worst possible times, like when I walk into the doctor’s office. I look like something out of one of those horror magazines where the doctor has brought me to life artificially like that man whose name I try hard to forget . . . (chuckles)

  6. Hi there! Thank you, Little Mermaid, for such a wonderful idea! This is my first time attending the tea party and I can’t wait to get to know many of you through your blogs! 🙂

    I am still a beginner blogger even though I’ve had a blog for a few years. I’m only 21 so I don’t have much wisdom to give, but I still love to write and always dreamed of becoming a writer. My blog contains a few stories/poems and thoughts about life. The post I am leaving here is one of my first posts where I confessed what a mean person I used to be and am working on totally leaving behind. Again, I can’t wait to see your posts as well!

  8. Hello everyone, the first thing I would like to say at this tea party is I think The Little Mermaid is awesome for hosting an event like this with her blog.

    One of the reasons I started blogging is I am a total introvert and I thought it would be a way to connect with other introverts with out leaving the comfort of my own home. Well that really has not happened because few people comment on my blog post and when I comment on other peoples post in the attempt to start a conversation they usually only comment back with a few words. I am not a very good writer but I do love to read so over the last year I have been reading more blogs then writing post on my blog. I am amazed at all the different topics there is to write about.

    My current blog is called Residual Income Teacher, I don’t have many followers and haven’t been doing post on the topic of residual income for a while. I started with the intent of helping people understand how profit and revenue sharing works and how people can build a lifetime residual once they know how it works. Hi Mark, I think when you want to blog, you might want to try something that is sort of like this first, and then you might put it out there what you do to see if others have an interest in that. It is good to make friends first and perhaps not come across in the professional vein straight out. A lot of folks seem to come here for the social content in more depth. Mind you, it is not necessarily a comment against what you do professionally, but trying to give you something that might help you. I bet you have a lot of great things inside you to write about in your life, and if not, you can always make up stories that people will really enjoy writing. You can let them know what you do, but then focus on other things, and let people come to you and ask you about what this is.

      There are a lot of authors in blogging and you might find that if you write a short book on the topic, you can self publish for free with a company like Amazon KDP in E-book and also in paperback, and then you can promote your book through your blog, but write about yourself as a human being. I bet you are a good writer if you keep trying, and I think all of us enjoy reading more than the old “LOL” etc. that we are used to from the other sites like Facebook. That too has its place, but when you want more in-depth, this is the place.

      So use this as a way to promote your book. There are plenty of good folks on here who interview the authors and help them to promote your work and many, if not most seem to be without charge. It is like an author’s network. Really wonderful.

      I believe you have a lot inside you and one day when you are ready you will bring it all out. Be kind to yourself. Everyone has wonderful stories and magic inside themselves. Turn on your light and let it shine. Glad to meet you and look forward to hearing about your other self here again!

      1. Thanks for your comment. I do love writing but I’m not writing a book.

        I’m writing because I see some very big problems here in my country America and that I know is all over the world.

        The problem is poverty and people trying to live on very low hourly wages.

        I have done a lot of different types of writing over the last few decades but seeing a need in the world and trying to do something about is my reason these days.

        Teaching people how to earn lifetime residual income is my passion and purpose now. I don’t care how many likes I get or how many followers I have, I just want to help those I can help.

        We live in a real world with real problems and I just want to be part of the solution to solving a big world problems.

        1. Well now, that changed the who situation of the tea party for certain. I admire you for having this as a cause in your life that you truly believe in and are using it to try to help others find ways to make it through these truly challenging times. I feel a lot more energy and aliveness in this post, so whoo hooo! Good job. I live on only social security and I WISH I had anything like residual income.

          My significant other has no income at all right now; he used to work in exchange for his rent and utilities and he had food stamps so he got along, but now with two of us on my less than one adequate social security, we can barely make our space rent for our mobile home monthly, and when the utilities are added in, it is frightening. I worked all my life and had some high-level jobs, but I always did volunteer work, and always worked to help others, even running a small non-profit once for about 10 years to help physically challenged artists. It was literally run with no money, but we achieved a lot and I feel good about the many people we helped.

          When I turned 64, I got laid off from a job at a major pharmaceutical as a Regulatory Compliance Specialist. Well, with that lovely title and my age, it was like a death sentence. I am very resourceful so I took a volunteer job at a major hospital where I got my medical for free until I could qualify for Medicare at 65, and I also got a big free meal every day at the doctor’s cafeteria if I worked 4 hours a day. And it was while I was on unemployment that I started the nonprofit to help others. I took my SS early at 64 so that I could keep a roof over my head, so of course I lost a lot of the income I would have had if I had waited until full eligibility.

          But within a year, I had remembered that I had a certificate to allow me to work as a substitute in teaching, and so I started that. Once I did that, I went into working as a substitute for some 15+ years as a teacher, paraeducator and aide depending on the need for special needs children. It is really my heart’s work. Because I was a substitute and not a regularly credentialed teacher, I could only get a sort of small payoff when I retired. By then I had severe and permanent PTSD from some really traumatic things, so I could not work. No one told me and I never thought to try to get disability. Now at my age, even though I worked all those years afterward and paid into disability, I am not eligible because someone told me you have to apply by 65 or you can’t have it. And when I tried other ways to claim some of the money I have earned since I took my SS, I was told that if I had not claimed it by age 70, I could not have it, and I am 77 now, so I have pretty much given up on that.

          So needless to say, I have nothing like residual income, or even money to help get any. We are happy even though we live in virtual poverty, but it would be nice to have more security. Oh, and I got another degree in 2016 in Criminal Justice, so thought I would be working as a mentor/advocate for Juvenile Delinquents, but now I cannot do that because I have had cancer and also the PTSD, so I have some $45,000 school loan debts. They have more or less forgiven it because I am considered disabled, but it makes it pretty difficult for me to work. So there you are, the more or less story of my life. My significant other has had major surgeries and illnesses that keep him from being able to work, so we struggle on, but at least we are happy together. Thank you kindly for your excellent response.             I am sorry to hear about all the struggles you have had in your life.
            One of the reasons I am now writing about lifetime residual income is because the recession of 2008 messed my whole life up. It messed up the lives of millions of working class Americans. My goal is to provide people with a simple way to not let the next recession mess up their life. I want to help myself by helping other people.

    1. Hi Patrick and welcome to the Tea Party. My confession is on my blog too. Kind of sobering, but true, and good things DO happen from those sobering experiences if you want them to. Thank you so much and I look forward to reading everyone’s confessions when I have more free time (what is that???) I will keep this tea party out on my desktop so I can find all of you again. I have a very ill significant other, and right now I am doing my best to get him back and forth to doctor’s appts. and to keep from losing my mind with the stress. It is ok though. Since we joined as partners five years ago, we have spent time each of us in hospitals with surgeries and illnesses, mostly pretty severe. So we are happy to have each other, and it is fun to come to the tea party once again. It always makes me smile in my heart. Thank you for your participation. This is such a great way to meet people and learn a little more about everyone who attends. Thank you one and all, and especially to the Little Mermaid.

  17. Hello everyone. My name is Anne and I am an artist/writer/blogger and all-around happy-to-be-here almost regular guest. Thank you once again for another invite. Might have missed one or two due to ye olde flu.

    Well now, confessions. OK, my blog is http://www.allinadaysbreath.wordpress.com. Although there is not one by that title, there is one called “The Gift,” and it is in 4 parts. Now I will warn you that is you are not ready for the story of my life, better not go there. I am a very positive and accomplished woman of 77 now, but life has not always been all of this. Sometimes we have to go through a pretty rocky path to get to where we are now. It is ok. I have long since made friends with my own self and forgiven myself for things I never caused. The reality is that a lot of us suffer from the acts of others at times in our lives, and if we have, it is good to get that poison out of ourselves in whatever ways that we are able. We are all good people at the core of life.

    OK, now I will make a lighter confession. On the lighter side, I baked my first really wonderful fruitcake for this past Christmas, and ended up eating all but 1 – 2 slices as it was SO GOOD!!! Yes, I probably gained weight from it, but oh, it was so worth it!

    I love these tea parties. Meet a lot of nice people and it is so much fun. Thank you one and all again.
